The title page is not dated but a School Prize label affixed to front paste-down is dated June Original illustrated brown cloth. The boards are intact but dulled and faded a little. The front board carries an intriguing vignette depicting a rather querulous woman man-handling a struggling child a nice touch of period detail.
The spine lettering has faded but is still legible. Also visible is another vignette featuring a rather despondent child the eponymous Ranald?
The rear board has some soiling and is pinched at one point on the top edge 4mm. The binding is just a little loose, although the front hinge has split. School prize label to front paste-down. The text is clean and intact with no obvious markings. The contents page has one crease to lower corner. The edges of the text block are dusty. The book has developed a slight lean.
